Market by market

UKGC

United Kingdom

One of the strictest regulated markets in the world, governed by the Gambling Act 2005 and the LCCP. The UKGC lists 37 licence types, 20 of them remote, so choosing the right licence is half the battle. We helped Grace Media extend its UK licence to become a software supplier, ahead of the estimated timeline.

KSA

Netherlands

The Dutch market opened to online gambling in 2021 under the Remote Gambling Act, and the KSA is one of Europe's most demanding regulators. Expect a lead time of around 6 to 9 months, a €48,000 application fee [confirm current KSA fee] and a financial guarantee [confirm amount with KSA]. Our Chief Compliance Officer, Mike de Graaff, has supported more than a third of all Dutch licence holders, including Hard Rock Casino NL

GRAI

Ireland

Ireland's new Gambling Regulatory Authority began licensing in 2026, and the first remote betting licences went live on 1 July 2026. Licences run for three years, with fees set by turnover, starting at €20,000 for B2C betting. GRAI quotes three to six months for an application. Casino and B2B supplier licences are still to open, so now is the time to prepare

Arpajaishallinto

Finland

Finland is ending its state monopoly. Applications opened on 1 March 2026, and licensed operators are expected to go live on 1 July 2027. The application fee is €29,000, processing takes about six months, and the proposed tax is 22% of gross gaming revenue. From 2028, B2C operators must use Finnish-licensed suppliers too

AGCO / AGLC

Ontario and Alberta

Ontario's regulated market launched in 2022 and has drawn around 45 operators. Alberta is following Ontario's regulatory blueprint, so operators already licensed in Ontario will find then licensing structures, compliance expectations and technical standards familiar. We help operators plan entry into both

Why gambling licence applications get delayed or refused

Most delays come down to a handful of avoidable gaps. Before anything is submitted, we run a readiness check against each one, so the regulator’s questions are answered before they’re asked.

        Gambling licence FAQs

How do I get an online gambling licence?

Choose the jurisdictions you want to operate in, then pick the right licence type for each. You’ll need to prepare a full application, with company and ownership details, financial standing, policies such as AML and responsible gambling, and evidence that your platform meets the local technical standards. The regulator then reviews it and usually comes back with questions before it decides.

Most regulators look at the same core areas: who owns and runs the business, where the money comes from, how you prevent money laundering, how you protect players, and whether your systems are certified to their technical standards. The detail and the strictness vary a lot by market, which is why jurisdiction advice comes first.

It depends on the regulator. Ireland’s GRAI quotes three to six months, Finland expects around six months of processing, and the Netherlands typically takes six to nine months. A complete, well-prepared application is the best way to avoid delays. Our streamlined process cuts licensing timelines by up to 40%.

Fees vary by jurisdiction, licence type and the size of your business. As examples, Finland’s application fee is €29,000, the Netherlands charges €48,000 plus a financial guarantee, and Ireland’s fees start at €20,000 and scale with turnover. UK fees are set by gross gambling yield. On top of these sit professional fees, testing and ongoing tax.

That depends on what you offer (betting, casino, B2B supply or software), and where your players are. In the UK alone there are 37 licence types. Getting this wrong can mean operating without the right cover, so we confirm the correct licences before any work begins.

In most regulated markets, yes. Each country licenses the operators who take bets from its players, so a licence in one market rarely covers another. Some regulators follow similar models, such as Alberta following Ontario, which makes a second application faster. We plan multi-market entry so documents and policies can be reused wherever the rules allow.

If you offer gambling to players in Great Britain, you need a Gambling Commission licence wherever your company is based. Suppliers whose software or games reach British players need one too. Grace Media worked with us to extend its UK operator licence to cover software supply.

Yes. We support B2C operators and B2B suppliers, including software and game providers moving into regulated markets, such as Playbook Fusion and Solidicon.
